In 2010, Georgia State University launched the Second Century Initiative (2CI), an interdisciplinary hiring and research initiative to build internationally recognized scholarly strength and critical mass around common research themes. Building on existing programs in Asian Studies in the Colleges of Arts and Science (COAS) and in international business in the J. Mack Robinson College of Business (RCB), Chinese Studies was created as a university-wide research initiative on China.
