Computers search with a form of logic using the terms AND, OR, and NOT in a very precise way.
Combining search words with OR yields the greatest number of results where either word was found. This is especially helpful when a specific keyword is not know and synonyms can be joined with OR. The shaded portion shows military OR army.
Combining search words with AND yields only results containing both words. The shaded portion of this figure shows women AND military.
Combining search terms with NOT will eliminate all results with the word proceding the connector. The shaded portion below shows military NOT navy.
