About

The Popular Culture Collection in Special Collections and Archives include several comic book collections. These collections include approximately 3,000 comics between them. Books are from major publishers, such as DC Comics, Marvel, Charlton, Archie Enterprise, and various imprints and independent publishers, such as IV Wall Comics, Vertigo, Dynamite Entertainment, Image, and more. The collections encompass many genres, including superheroes and romance. They date from 1944 to 2020 with the majority from the 1970s to 1990s.

Collections

Comic Books collection:

The Comic Books collection contains approximately 2,500 comic books from publishers such as DC Comics, Marvel, Charlton, Archie Enterprise, various imprints, and independent publishers. The collection encompasses many genres, including superheroes and romance. They date from 1944 to 2020 with the majority from the 1970s to 1990s.

Alan Dion collection:

The Alan Dion Collection primarily contains comic books and comic art panels that reflect the popular reading taste of American children and adults, 1947-2020. The collection contains issues of Marvel, DC, Vertigo, Dynamite Entertainment, Image, and independent publisher comics, 1961 -2020. It also contains comic art panels from various artists, 1947-2007. These panels are from comic book pages and comic strips.

Southern Visual Storytelling collection:

The Southern Visual Storytelling collection contains popular and independently pubslished illustrated and visual texts, such as comic books. The collection includes publications created by Atlanta based artists and authors, printed in Georgia, published in the South, and other illustrated and visual publications that were created by and/or in the Southern United States. The collection includes books published by Marvel Comics and independent publishers, such as IV Wall Comics. It dates from 1968 to 2023 with the majority of materials from 2020 to 2022.
