Tableau FAQs

Which version of Tableau should I download/use?

  • Tableau Public is available for anyone to download and learn the basics of Tableau. Most of the visualization capabilities are the same as the full version, but your file importing and saving options are limited. Your visualizations can only be published online and are accessible to anyone. Tableau Public is available on all Atlanta campus University Library computers.
  • Tableau for Students/Tableau Desktop Public Edition (TDPE) is available to all learners (commercial use is not allowed). This version allows you to save your visualizations to your device but has limits on the file types you can import compared to the paid version of Tableau Desktop.
  • Tableau for Teaching offers various Tableau tools and teaching resources (including Tableau Desktop, Prep Builder, and Tableau Cloud) to educators through a free one-year renewable subscription. You must submit proof that you are actively teaching to receive and and renew your licenses.
