Poster Presentations for Beginners

Introduction

What is a poster presentation?

Poster presentations are a great way to exhibit and share a visual summary of your research project at a conference, meeting or in the classroom. Posters can be printed out on a large piece of paper, displayed electronically on a digital display or virtually through a smaller screen (computer, tablet, phone).

Most poster sessions are events that are attended by both you and your audience, meaning that you will stand by your poster, talk to attendees and answer questions about your research. Other sessions may be unattended, meaning that your viewers will be looking at your poster without any additional context or explanation from you. Often, there will be an attended session after which the posters are left up for a period of time unattended. You should prepare your presentation to fit both attended and unattended events.
