Opening Remarks
Presenter: Allison Calhoun-Brown is Sr. Vice President for Student Success and chief enrollment officer at Georgia State University. She directs the university’s efforts to increase enrollment, retention, progression, and graduation by developing strategic initiatives and refining operational processes to support student success. Dr. Calhoun-Brown has implemented new and innovative programming to address issues of effective academic advising, unmet student financial need, curricular progression barriers, the connection between college and career, and support for at-risk students. Dr. Calhoun-Brown graduated with honors from Oberlin College and earned an M.A. and Ph.D. in Political Science from Emory University.

Lightning Talk
Publishers frequently offer supplemental content to accompany their textbooks, creating a "course in a box." When faculty transition to OER content, they may spend a great deal of time creating assignments, tests, lecture slides etc. to accompany the free resources. This was the challenge following the adoption of an affordable textbook for CPR/First Aid classes taught in my department. In this presentation, I will explain my vision for augmenting the course and how I was able to secure an Affordable Learning Georgia grant to bring the vision to fruition.
Presenters: Natalie Stickney is an Associate Professor in Kinesiology and Health, housed in the Health Science Pathway. She has been teaching at the Clarkston campus for 13 years, and primarily teaches CPR/First Aid, Introduction to Kinesiology and Health, and Perspectives classes.
Donya Andrews-Little, Ph.D is an Associate Professor in the Dept. of Kinesiology and Health at Perimeter College. She teaches courses in Sport Management, CPR/First Aid, and Perspectives. She has primarily taught on the Clarkston campus and has worked for the University for over ten years.

Rachel performed a bibliometric analysis of scholarly publications about Open Educational Resources (OERs) and Higher Education. Specifically, she wanted to investigate how this research overlaps with academic libraries and trace the research patterns about Open Textbooks. The democratic mission of the library naturally overlaps with the objectives of OERs and Open Pedagogy, and the rising price of textbooks is one of the greater financial burdens college students face. The goal of this research is to analyze the current state of research to share knowledge with LIS professionals for their research into open textbooks and implementing Open Educational Resource initiatives.
Presenter: Rachel Chandler, Science and Data Visualization Librarian
Rachel Chandler is the Science and Data Visualization Librarian at GSU. She has a background in medical and scientific illustration and loves all things related to science, information, and art.

We will describe and show the online library and explain the collaboration between authors, illustrators, and readers making Serie Leamos a useful pedagogical tool to learn Spanish. This is the link to the site: www.serieleamos.com
Presenters: Victoria Rodrigo, Professor of Spanish, Sara Parra Cadavid, Graduate Student, and Chase Barber - Undergraduate student
Dr. Rodrigo teaches at graduate and undergraduate level. She is an active researcher and designer of pedagogical materials. Currently, Dr. Rodrigo is working on a reading project, Serie Leamos, a free digital library of engaging stories written and illustrated by Georgia State students. She is the founder and editor of the collection.

In this panel, two psychology faculty discuss their OER experiences. What were their motivations, successes and challenges?
Presenters: Nancy Gup, Professor of Psychology & Holly Keddington, Sr. Lecturer of Psychology
Dr. Nancy Gup is a tenured professor of psychology. She serves as the Curriculum Coordinator across all Perimeter Campuses for 2621 Abnormal Psychology. Dr. Gup has shown her commitment and support for OER for many years. She is the Lead Investigator for Round 18, Affordable Learning Grant, Abnormal Psychology.
Holly Keddington is a senior lecturer of psychology. She has taught fully online for Perimeter College since 2012, and she is a contributing editor for the Online Learning Journal. Bit-by-bit she has transitioned all her courses to utilizing OER materials. She regularly teaches lifespan development, introductory psychology, and a careers in psychology survey course.

Student Discussion
We hear about inequity when it comes to education and educational outcomes. We hear about the rising costs of college tuition. Is there a social problem of educational inequity when it comes to textbooks? A panel of Social Problems students from a Perimeter College SOCI 1160 class explores this issue.
Presenters: Hosanna Fletcher, Lecturer of Sociology, and Students Adriana Alfaro, Bria Blake, Jabari Fletcher, Khalid Lawrence, Laoni Cpnan, Mekenzie Love, Riley Knight
Hosanna Fletcher has been teaching Sociology for 13 years at Perimeter College, at first in a part-time role, and now full-time. She uses high impact practices (specifically service and community-based learning and collaborative projects) in her classroom to engage students.

Lightning Talk
This presentation will discuss the social justice impacts of open pedagogy. I share strategies used to transform courses by including not only open education resources, but also open education practices to promote social justice, equity and inclusion. Beyond cost savings for students, the benefits of OER and OEP for both students and instructors will be highlighted.
Presenter: Cyntoria Johnson, J.D. is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Criminal Justice in the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies. The lawyer-turned-professor teaches in the legal track concentration, providing advanced skills-based instruction to students in preparation for careers in the law. Her passions are to remedy injustices in the criminal justice system and to prepare the next generation of legal practitioners – one case and one student at a time. The Atlanta-native is a GSU Panther who bleeds blue, receiving both her M.S. and B.S. from Georgia State University.

Lightning Talk
The presentation will illustrate how to design course exercises that incorporate OER materials. Course exercises that incorporate OER materials will keep students actively engaged in the assignment and encourage the use of OER materials in completing assignments in other disciplines.
Presenter: Marilyn Render, Assistant Professor of Communication,
A graduate of the Purdue University Brian Lamb Graduate School of Communication and The Krannert Graduate School of Management, Marilyn Render has spent her career in academia and corporate America. In 2004 Marilyn and family relocated to the Atlanta area, where Marilyn started a second career at Georgia Perimeter College in the Humanities Department teaching Communication classes.

Lightning Talk
The Georgia Knowledge Repository (GKR), a GALILEO initiative, is a central metadata repository containing records from participating GALILEO institutions that can be freely searched. This session will provide an overview of GKR's history, searching in GKR, and the current charge of the GKR. The GKR committee works to promote open access collections at member institutions, including OER collections and related materials.
Presenter: Lauren Bellard, Urban Studies Librarian,
Lauren Bellard is a Librarian who works with the departments of History, the Urban Studies Institute, and the Honors College in downtown Atlanta. She is interested in all things Open Access, Copyright, and OER, and is currently the Vice Chair of the Georgia Knowledge Repository committee.

Faculty Select promotes textbook affordability by helping faculty locate online course materials that their students can use for free. The Library's database includes OER (Open Educational Resources) content as well as DRM-free ebooks licensed for unlimited users that faculty can request the library to purchase. This session will review the basics of searching for content in Faculty Select.
Presenter: Whitney Bates-Gomez, Electronic and Continuing Resources Librarian
Provides leadership in developing, delivering, maintaining, and assessing the library’s collection of electronic and continuing resources. Ms. Bates-Gomez works to troubleshoot access issues and assist in streamlining content delivery.

Inspired by the AYS Open Access Initiative, we redesigned the Principles of Microeconomics course to provide a better learning experience and lower the cost to students as an OER course. A key element is the set of over 100 online interactive tools providing both formative and summative assessments which are fully integrated into iCollege. Critical to our success was the multi-talented team involved, as well as several rounds of funding from the U.S. Department of Education’s Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund and the University System of Georgia’s Affordable Learning Grant. We have created a website to share our work broadly with others: http://econreimagined.gsu.edu/. Our presentation will highlight the products produced and our creation process.
Presenters: Shelby Frost, Clinical Associate Professor of Economics, and Amy Eremionkhale, Clinical Assistant Professor of Economics
Shelby Frost is Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Economics. She is the course coordinator for ECON 2106 Principles of Microeconomics and has worked with a team to redesign the course using OER materials and newly produced online interactive tools.
Amy Eremionkhale is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Economics at Georgia State University (GSU). Amy has experience teaching several courses in economics, business analytics, and finance at the undergraduate and graduate levels. As a clinical assistant professor at GSU, Amy developed an Open Education Resource (OER) version of the Principles of Microeconomics undergraduate course alongside three GSU colleagues.
