Introduction to Literary Studies: Books

Getting Books From Other Libraries

Use the options listed below to find books that the GSU Library doesn't have available:

  • GIL Express allows you to request books from any University System of Georgia library. Search the University System of Georgia Catalog, find the book you need. GIL Express requests usually take between 3 and 5 business days to arrive.
  • You may also check out books in person from any University System of Georgia library or Emory University's libraries using your PantherCard.
  • If the book isn't available from a GIL Express/USG library, you can order it via Interlibrary Loan (ILL). Log in with your Campus ID and password to place a request. ILL requests may take two weeks or more, so plan ahead.

Library Catalogs

Most research library catalogs are available on the web. Search by the name of the institution to find them.  We can order many items for you through Interlibrary Loan. Be aware, however, that many libraries, such as the British Library, have collections that may not be available in their electronic catalogs or that they may not lend certain items.

Locating Books

When you search GIL or GIL-Find, get this information to find the book:

  • Call number
  • Location
  • Status (Checked out, not checked out, renewed, etc.)

Still can't find your book? Here are your options:

  1. Check the sorting shelves on Library North 3.
  2. Ask for help at the Research Support Desk on Library North 2.
  3. Ask the Access Services staff (Library North 1 or Library South 2) to trace the book.
  4. Use GIL Express to get the book from another University System of Georgia library.

Literary Guides

Many publishers have guides to a particular literature. Some publishers who publish these type of works include Cambridge University Press, Oxford University Press, and Blackwell.
