Searching Factiva

In September 2024, Factiva switched to a new interface that presents a single search box allowing natural language searching of news articles and company/market information together. The new interface also displays feeds of major headlines from worldwide and regional news sources. You may switch back to the classic interface featuring Search Form and Free Text options using the "Switch Factiva" button in the top right.

The classic interface is a traditional advanced search, and the news search and companies/markets information are in separate tabs. Factiva intends for the new interface to be easier for beginning users, while the classic interface remains available for advanced searching. Please see ProQuest's Factiva Guide for more information about the new interface, including comparisons to the classic interface and training videos.

Printing and Sharing Documents

All pages in the new Factiva experience have shareable URLs. If you want to share an article found while searching the new interface, simply copy the URL displayed in your browser's address bar:

Please note that there is not an option to download articles from the new interface, nor is there an option to email an article directly. Instead, Factiva recommends copy-pasting the browser URL into an email. If you're on campus, you can copy and paste the link into the following OpenAthens link generator: https://go.openathens.net/generate/gsu.edu/70924746. The generator will automatically place the proxy prefix in front of the URL so that the link recipient will be able to access the link.

It's possible to copy-paste the HTML of an individual article into a word document and save it, so that is an option while searching the new interface.

Warning: Access to content from Factiva is limited to Georgia State University (GSU) students, faculty and staff so please do not share articles or other content with individuals outside of the GSU system as this violates our license and could result in the loss of access to Factiva for the entire university.

You can also share individual documents via the "share" button on the classic Factiva interface.

If you need to downloaded or email several documents at once, Factiva recommends using the PDF download or email button available via the classic Factiva interface. Just select the articles you want to export by checking the box next to the article number, then choose one of the following options:

  •    View the selected articles
  •    Email
  •    Print
  •    Save
  •    Save in  RTF format
  •    Save in  PDF format
