ENGL 1102H Spring 2024 (Mitchell): Seek You Essay

Assignment Instructions

Essay due Sunday, 3/10 by 11:59pm

You will write an essay of between 1000 and 1500 words analyzing how the graphic novel Seek You: A Journey through American Loneliness by Kristen Radtke develops a specific theme, which needs to be correctly stated in the Thesis. Remember, that in stating a theme, you should not just give the general topic but should focus on a specific insight the author is giving about the topic. Even though it is not required, your theme will most likely connect to the topics of loneliness or isolation because that is what the graphic novel centers on. You must analyze how the author uses both the text and the images to develop the theme.

You must use one or two secondary, scholarly sources in this essay, but do not have more than two pieces of cited evidence from these secondary sources because your focus should be on analyzing Seek You. Your sources must be books or database articles. They cannot be websites. They can discuss some of the issues, concepts, or examples included in Seek You. Use this information to help support your analysis of Seek You.

You must have a works cited and in-text citations for both your primary source (images and text from Seek You) and your secondary sources. Use a mix of direct quotes and paraphrase from sources. I suggest having in every body paragraph at least three pieces of cited evidence with at least one of them being a direct quote. Make sure to always properly introduce, cite, and analyze your evidence. Your essay must have a strong, clear focused argumentative thesis that states the theme from Seek You that you will be analyzing.

This essay, and all of your other essays, should be in third person, 12 point Times New Roman font, double-spaced using MLA 9th edition format. You must include a works cited and in-text citations for this paper.
