The laws around digital currencies are still taking shape. In 2021-2022 Senator Cynthia M. Lummis proposed the Responsible Financial Innovation Act (RIFA) to clarify how digital currencies should be regulated. A revised version of the bill was proposed in July 2023 by U.S. Senators Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.).
