Use this guide to learn more about the Bloomberg Terminals at Georgia State University.

What is Bloomberg?

Created by Michael Bloomberg, founder of Bloomberg L.P., Bloomberg is a powerful and flexible platform for financial professionals that can be accessed via the Bloomberg Terminals at various locations on campus (remote access is not available).

Bloomberg brings together real-time data on market news and research and includes analytics and communication tools that can help professionals make smarter, faster, more informed business decisions. Bloomberg has data on more than 5 million bonds, equities, commodities currencies, and funds. It also covers almost every publicly traded company in the world, and it has profiles on more than a million people.

Faculty and students at GSU can use the Bloomberg Terminals to:

  • Monitor real-time financial market changes and their effects
  • Track financial market news
  • Compare stocks and company information
  • Access industry overviews
  • Track foreign exchange, gold and oil trade information

How to Access Bloomberg

Bloomberg is not remotely accessible. Bloomberg software installations exist on designated terminals, for onsite access only. Bloomberg Terminal locations at the Atlanta and Buckhead campuses can be found under the "Getting Started" page.

2025 Bloomberg Global Trading Challenge

The Bloomberg Global Trading Challenge is an international, university-level investment competition where student teams use a Bloomberg Terminal and virtual funds to make investment decisions and grow their portfolio, aiming for the highest time-weighted relative return against a market index. The competition provides students with hands-on experience in real-world market conditions, requiring them to apply fundamental and news analysis, collaborate, and manage risk using Bloomberg's financial data platform.

Through this competition, teams of 3-5 students (led by a faculty advisor) will compete against other top students around the world to experience firsthand what real-world investing looks and feels like. Teams must register by the October 5th, 2025 and must include:1 team captain, 2-4 additional team members, 1 faculty advisor.
