This year’s selection Klara and the Sun presents a world in which artificial intelligence plays a central role and intimate role in our daily lives. The novel brings up important issues of history and culture, class and social justice. As you read this novel, be sure to take plenty of notes and draw parallels and connections to our own contemporary world—perhaps not that different from the one Ishiguro describes. We hope this book will be a joy to read—and a one that provokes you to think about the world you live in and the world of the future.
