Research Data Services @ Georgia State University Library: WORKSHOPS ~ Data Analysis Methods (Quantitative & Qualitative)

Below are the workshops we offer on data analysis methods -- check out the library calendar for specific days/times and to register, and learn more about getting RDS@GSU Data Certified.

Survey Design Workshop Series

Survey Design Workshop Series

Survey Design 1: General Overview of Survey Design

This workshop is the first in a two-part series on Survey Design. The focus of this workshop is to help researchers move from a general idea with a few hypotheses to developing survey questions. Questions covered will be closed- and open-ended and developed for different surveys (paper, telephone, online, and in person).

Workshop Topics:

Prerequisites: None.

Survey Design 2: Generating and Designing Surveys

This workshop is the second in a two-part series on Survey Design. The focus of this workshop is to help researchers move from a list of survey questions to generating and designing the survey tool.

Workshop Topics:

  • Flow of survey instrument
  • Appearance and ease of use
  • Length and cognitive burden
  • Catering to respondents

Prerequisites: None.

Logics & Logistics of Qualitative Research Session

Logics & Logistics of Qualitative Research Session

The Logics & Logistics of Qualitative Research

A Framework for Exploring Concepts, Dimensions, and Relationships in Qualitative Data using NVivo Research Software

Dr. LaRossa and Dr. Mandy Swygart-Hobaugh present this joint session. Dr. LaRossa discusses the steps involved in building theoretically-rich qualitative analyses (the logics) and Dr. Swygart-Hobaugh outlines the specific features of NVivo qualitative research software that complement and facilitate these analyses (the logistics).

NOTE:

Mixed Methods Workshop

Mixed Methods Workshop

Mixed Methods: General Overview of Mixed Methods Research Design

This workshop is a general overview of mixed methods used in research. Mixed Methods Research Designs use a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods.

Workshop Topics:

  • Overview of Mixed Methods
  • Explanatory vs. Exploratory Design
  • Sequential and Concurrent Design
  • Triangulation Design

Prerequisites: None.

Social Networks Workshop Series

Social Networks Workshop Series

Networks 1: General Overview of Social Network and Social Network Analysis

This workshop is the first of a two-part series on social network analysis. You will learn how to use social network analysis to examine the connections between individuals or groups both visually and through specific measurements.

Workshop Topics:

  • Social networks (defined)
  • Ego networks
  • Full networks
  • Network components

Prerequisites: None.

Networks 2: Analyzing Ego Networks with Stata

This workshop is the second of a two-part series on social network analysis. You will learn how to use social network analysis to examine the connections between individuals or groups both visually and through specific measurements.

Workshop Topics:

  • Calculations for ego networks
  • Generating network matrixes in Stata

Prerequisites: Networks 1 or basic knowledge of social networks.
