Library Basics

Ask for help at the Library North service desk, by phone (404-413-2800) or via the Live Assistance box on the library home page.

To find materials located at GSU Library, search GILfind, the online library catalog.

The contents of books and articles are not searchable in GILfind. Search a library database to find articles.

To obtain a book or article GSU doesn't have, request it via GIL Express (if it's available within the University System of Georgia) or Interlibrary Loan (ILL) if it's not.

Using Find It @GSU

Many databases give you only a citation telling you where to find the article, not the article itself.

There's often a shortcut to the full article text in another database -- this button:

Click the Find It @GSU button to open a window with links to the article you need.

If that fails, try searching for the journal title in GIL-Find, or use Interlibrary Loan (ILL) to request it from another library.

Journal Entry 1: Teens as a constructed audience

Use one of these two databases -- "search engines" for articles -- to find Advertising Age articles about teenage audiences.

Journal Entry 2, part 1: press coverage

These links go to databases that search newspapers and magazines. Search these to find press coverage of your chosen film before its release.

You may need to go to the Advanced Search screen to limit your searches by date.

Journal entry 2, part 2: Marketing and publicity

You may find info on publicity, licensed tie-ins and marketing in the news databases above, or you may need to search some film and business databases like these.
