Databases
Many databases allow you to limit your search to book reviews. Try the "advanced search" feature in the database to see if this option is available.
You can also find book reviews in online databases by entering the title of the book and book review:
Example: I know why the caged bird sings and book review
How to Find Book Reviews
Book reviews provide a critique, summary, and/or evaluation of a book. They are often published in magazines and journals. Not all books are reviewed. To find a book review:
- Identify the author, title and date of publication of the book. If you do not have the book, check the online catalog GIL
or try the database WorldCat to locate book information. - Look in online databases that include book reviews. The "Databases" box on this page lists databases that include book reviews.
- Look in a print index that includes book reviews. The "Books" box on this page includes print indexes that include citations to book reviews.
- To find out if the library has a print copy of a review, go to GIL to find the call number of the volume of the periodical containing the review: GIL> Exact Search > Journal Title
- Ask a Librarian if you have questions or need help.
Books
Many specialized book review sources are available in the library. To locate print reviews, search GIL, the online catalog, using the keywords book reviews and periodicals.
