Special Collections and Archives: On the Cutting Edge - Areas of Excellence at GSU: Adult Literacy

This guide features an exhibit mounted in 2000 highlighting significant achievements in selected academic areas. Deans of each college submitted noteworthy areas of excellence.

Accounting Program

The lack of basic skills in reading, writing, and arithmetic is a major problem that adversely affects the nation's economic development and quality of life. The Center for Adult Literacy, directed by Dr. Joanne Nurss, is the state headquarters for research, program development, training, and instruction. The Developmental Studies Program and College of Education jointly sponsor the Center's work.

Below: A symposium focused on research issues in literacy for the coming decade and reflected the diversity of research currently in progress.
