In his 1904 will, the Hungarian-born, American journalist Joseph Pulitzer established four prizes to award excellence in journalism, letters and drama, education and traveling scholarships. In establishing the Pulitzer Board, he gave them permission to change the awards as needed. There are currently 21 Pulitzer Prizes that include poetry, music, and photography.
