Pulitzer Prize

In 2007. Natasha Trethewey won the Pulitzer Prize for her book of poetry, Native GuardThe Pulitzer Prize website includes some information about her and lists the other finalists in the poetry catagory.

In his 1904 will, the Hungarian-born, American journalist Joseph Pulitzer established four prizes to award excellence in journalism, letters and drama, education and traveling scholarships. In establishing the Pulitzer Board, he gave them permission to change the awards as needed.  There are currently 21 Pulitzer Prizes that include poetry, music, and photography.  Here is a history of the Prize and includes a biography on Joseph Pulitzer who transformed American journalism throughout his career.
