ENGL 8000: Bibliography, Research Methods, and Literary Theory: Books

Provides an introduction to the methods and tools of productive scholarly research for English studies and the general humanities.

Library Catalogs

Most research library catalogs are available on the web. Search by the name of the institution to find them.  We can order many items for you through Interlibrary Loan. Be aware, however, that many libraries, such as the British Library, have collections that may not be available in their electronic catalogs or that they may not lend certain items.

Finding Books

Use the "Catalog" tab at library.gsu.edu to find books in our library using GIL-Find. The catalog also lists other materials in the library - including microfilm, dissertations, movies, music, and special collections.

A Keyword search in GIL-Find is a good place to start if you are looking for information on a topic. If you have more specific information, you can also search by title, subject or author using the Advanced Search options.

** If GSU does not have the item you are looking for, try searching the University System of Georgia Catalog and requesting the item from another USG library via GIL Express. **

Getting books from other libraries

Use the options listed below to find books that the GSU Library doesn't have available:

  • GIL Express allows you to request books from any University System of Georgia library. Search the University System of Georgia Catalog, find the book you need. GIL Express requests usually take between 3 and 5 business days to arrive.
  • You may also check out books in person from any University System of Georgia library or Emory University's libraries using your PantherCard.
  • If the book isn't available from a GIL Express/USG library, you can order it via Interlibrary Loan (ILL). Log in with your library ID number to place a request. ILL requests may take two weeks or more, so plan ahead.

This is an author catalog of reported holdings of the Library of Congress and about 1,000 other North American libraries. Most of the more than 11,000,0000 entries are print items but some manuscripts, theses, and dissertations are included. The entries are reproduced from library catalog cards, so the level of details varies. Since this is an author catalog, there are no separate entries for titles.
